Gillan Dalziel currently resides in Scotland and is a qualified Hypnotherapist and a Reiki Master.
Gillian Tell us a little about your back ground.
I am a qualified Hypnotherapist and also a Reiki Master…Just a wee bit of my background her and then we can delve deeper into the fascinating world of Hypnosis.
As a young child I was exposed to the power of the mind by my Mum, she was diagnosed with schizophrenia. This is a horrible label to be given by society and on we do not fully understand. That is a story in itself anyway what I was shown was the different parts to a personality, as in a Jekyll and Hyde.
I was disturbed but fascinated at the same time. My mum was amazing in the fact she had a switch to use to go between the two parts, so one minute being like and angel the next a devil, within a split second…Powerful stuff eh! So I wanted to learn more. I did fancy learning about Psychiatry, but then decided against it. Later in life after pursuing different paths I Finally trained in hypnosis and also learned about Psycho-Analysis.
Okay many people have asked me a lot of questions about hypnosis and Tim you have so kindly asked me a few which I will now assist you with. And this is my opinion, no one else’s, so I will be honest with my answers and speak to you from the heart. For more on hypnosis you can go to my website at www.positive-mind-hypnosis.com
Please, tell us the relationship between self image and overall mental health?
The relationship between the Self Image and overall Mental Health is very overwhelming for many people…you see we seem to have this idea especially In today’s society that we must look a certain way to fit in with others…It is how we have been taught and this has a major impact on the individuals’ mental health.
A huge inner turmoil goes on inside for example, a powerful feeling of not being worthy, loss of self confidence, unattractiveness and much more. As human beings people can go to great lengths to fit in with society by gaining what the individual deems to be the perfect self image to display to others.
Cosmetic surgery as we all know has soared; in fact personally I feel it is out of control. You get lots of people getting into Body Building to, to change the whole physique and much more. The bottom line in this is the acceptance of SELF…Loving and accepting our self completely because if you cannot love yourself you cannot love anyone else.
What exactly is hypnosis? The movies make it out as some mysterious control over someone else to make them do anything.
Hypnosis is a powerful tool which amazingly you were born with, confused well you cannot go to sleep without being in Hypnosis. I mean when you are dreaming which most of us do right…You are not aware of your body at all, you cannot feel it, you don’t even know if you are alive…you get the drift. Thankfully most of us wake up in the morning.
Also throughout the day we daydream which is hypnosis. So you see it is a huge part of you already, it is just you have forgotten how to use it for your benefit. Now yes the movies have given it Bad press but what you don’t realize is they are actually using it on you in a major way.
Think of music and the lyrics involved, the Corus Is repeated so much you will soon know it and also the music itself is also repeated so before you know it you are humming it. How many adverts do you know on the TV, I bet you find yourself humming the tune…Go Compare Car Insurance…or We Buy Any Gold. Yes it is all there. You just have to start observing these things more.
Is hypnosis by a professional more powerful then hypnotizing yourself? How so?
Well, yes and no is my answer…you see some of us are very suggestible and some not so. We are all different personality types with different abilities for example, so of us are very right brained as in a great imagination, creative flair whilst others are more left brained, logical analytical, organized Etc.
Now depending on the professional and how they come across to the client will affect the outcome…Trust is a big thing. Also the Professional’s training is important also, as I being able to work with the different personality types.
This will have a huge impact of the session and will lead to success as it is tailored to the individual. Now when a person masters them self more by tapping into the subconscious more and realizing who they truly are then they are powerful on their own without anyone else intervening.
What is the mirror technique? What is your professional opinion on it?
The mirror technique is about gaining Rapport with an individual and is a term widely used by Hypnotists, but actually it is something a lot of us do anyway, for example when you are talking to people that you have a deep connection with and good positive energy is flowing then you both will automatically copy each other, it is a subconscious thing and a good one to I believe.
So if they are sitting opposite you and cross their right leg you being opposite them will cross your left leg and you will find you both sit in the same position to, so it comes to us naturally and that is the best way as if it is a deliberate thing that is being done it will be picked up by the other person…Now I say this because we are all receivers of signals, we are walking satellites and we pick up vibrations and frequencies.
Does subliminal messaging through tapes actually work? How do I know I’m not being told to do something crazy?
This is something we need to tap into more, life in the fast pace acts as a distraction you see, keeping us from knowing our true capabilities. Time and the Calendar have a huge control over us. Subliminal messaging through tapes really does work; in fact forget the tapes turn on the TV, that is major exposure, all those commercials telling you how good your life will be if you buy this luxury item, because David Beckham uses it.
Oh let us go and get a tattoo…he has one. As I said a lot of us are very suggestible. Then we have all the soaps, now people get sucked right into these programs. People actually start to create this invisible bond with the characters, feeling like they know them, of course the media knows this as so you have lots of celebrity magazines with lots of visual pictures being used to gain more of an association with…
Subliminal messages right in front of your face. And most people do not see this they are unaware. At least if you buy a professional tape to help you quit smoking, lose weight it is targeted to just that for your benefit and not the consumerism which is crashing the economies of many countries and creating massive debt.
What are some of the dangers of hypnosis?
There are dangers with hypnosis especially if people are not suitable to it, for example people under the influence of Mind Altering Drugs, Alcohol or are mentally impaired. Also the professional has to be careful with words, always making sure they are positive, never using the don’t word plus many others.
Also some people are natural Somnambulistic so for them they will go into a deeper trance than others, so they must be brought back to the here and now in the right way, all positive and good. Hypnosis is a great thing and you would not believe the amount of people that use it, major mind control is being done on individual’s everyday as I said above and that is just the tip of the iceberg.
But here is the thing, we must as individual people get back to regaining our true power, stop for a moment give our self some silence, and take our self away from hustle and bustle. Relax and unwind and be in our own space…we are always helping others, or running around after others, but who takes care of you..only one person can do this.
My advice is baby steps…spend 5 minutes with yourself, lie down on your bed, put on some of your favorite music and take a deep breathe or make yourself a cuppa, whatever feels best for you…then build up the time to 10 minutes and so forth. This is just learning to relax…then you can start to learn how to empty the mind and much more, as I said baby steps.
What type of results can someone expect from hypnosis? Isn’t making changes in one’s life a gradual improvement with repetitive hypnotic sessions?
People can notice the benefits of hypnosis straight away for example as in quitting smoking…passing a driving test etc but other things can take a bit more time like losing weight. Really depends on the inner goings on, so for example depression takes more time as it has to be dealt with in a different way, for example using hypnosis and psycho-analysis, getting to the root cause.
And yes repetition is key to everything in life. We have mastered that one very well, we know how to walk, talk, eat etc…We don’t even give that a second thought. We have also created many wonderful good habits and also ones which are lesser desirable, se we truly are so powerful.
Just need to believe this more. I know a lot of people have criticized hypnosis for years and that is okay. Everyone has different opinions, in my book no one is right and no one is wrong. We all need to find our own truth and what we do and say in any given moment is the right thing to do at that moment.
Now perhaps it may have been not so good an idea, but it is part of the experience and there are always lessons to be learned, secret is learning from them. Your reality is different to mine and both realities are right for us both.
What would you like to say to people who doubt or criticize hypnosis?
And just some parting words before I go…
“Say How You Feel Because Those Who Care Won’t Mind and Those Who Mind Won’t Matter”
“We are all little stars and this world is a whole stage and we all have a part to play in it.”
Much Love and Light to You All…
Gillian
